    1. @onlyoneskeletor Yeah, I’ll wait for a heavy discount then use the various heads we’ve gotten for different looks and iterations. I just wish they weren’t doing all the characters we’ve already gotten for vintage. There’s zero excitement. And with every NE version you know a vintage is just around the corner!

    2. @sketchyskeletor You know, it’s funny. Earlier this morning, I realised that my collecting habits had changed. Until then, MOTU was all about expanding the lore. But, with the current trend, I’ve kind of got used to this renewed enthusiasm for enjoying the different variations of a single character. Oh man…! I never thought I’d hear myself say something like that anytime soon (lol).

    1. I don’t understand what Mattel is doing with this figure. If this is supposed to be Vintage Collection Man-at-Arms then why is it pulling elements from New Eternia? The head and helmet appear to be a complete reuse.

Zoom in. They look similar but they are different sculpts. The armor is different too.

    2. @mighty-thanos Actually no, the head & helmet are exactly the same mold; they are repainted and the eyes are painted slightly differently in this vintage one, making the face looks like a new sculpt, but it’s not, mold is the same.
The differences this vintage one brings:- Vintage recolor (whole figure & parts)
      – Completely different mace design (with real chain links)- Large Torso- Different armor (every part is new)- Different boot design- Different belt design- Different loincloth design- Added knife- ‘flat’ left hand (instead of fist)
The ‘shared’ elements with NE release are:
      – thighs/knees, arms, head- helmet- wrist brace- 3 of the 4 hand parts

      Interesting! Thanks for the breakdown!

    4. @abaddon No prob, and just to let you know, the mace is a completely different design, with real chain links. And the torso is also different on this vintage one, it’s the ‘large torso’ mold. I found out now and added these to the list I posted.

    5. @collectorphil Ah, the large torso… that is always a very nice upgrade, too… alongside the subtle airbrushing on the body.
I was very happy w/ NE MAA, but of course the “leather” boots and loincloth are not the classic look…
I may have to see what else Mattel is planning, to decide if these differences are enough to make me want to get another Man-At-Arms…

I was about to vehemently disagree with comparing pictures but then I saw the NE version has a 2nd head thats as vintage as it gets 😆
Well, makes sense to use these; as far as I know most of the NE versions had optional parts to make them look very close to classic but with richer details.

  1. Yeah these Vintage Collection figures are more for… newer fans / who have missed some of the earlier versions.

Although with VC Stratos, he’s different enough from the NE, AND he’s my favorite character, I’ll get him. (Though a bit too similar to my beloved Classics one).

But with VC MAA, I just really like my NE version, and this one is so similar, so…

I do appreciate the slight airbrushing on these, and the knife is a nice touch. MAA benefits from more weapons!

    1. @cosmic Tell me about it! Mattel’s achievement is outstanding! I usually prefer to expand a specific world filled with different characters, but lately, I have literally switched to how efficient each new revisit of the same warrior is. But my wallet doesn’t seem to mind too much, so come on in again, Stratos! As for Man-At-Arms, the release of this Vintage Collection version made me reconsider the necessity of the NE version, which is fortunately still available at a very reasonable price. I think I’m going to buy this one as well, and I’ll progressively resell my Motuc Palace Guards to clear some space on my shelves.
