Mattel has just announced that the crowdfunding for the Masters of the Universe: Origins SNAKE LAIR 2.0 Playset opens Friday, August 1st on the Mattel Creations website.
No other details were made available, but we suspect more will come out during today’s Masters of the Universe toy panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
For anyone who is not aware, a crowdfunding campaign for the Snake Lair was due to originally launch August 12th, 2024.
The Snake Lair (bottom left) was selected by fans in 2023 as the next large-scale Masters of the Universe item they wanted to be made available through crowdfunding.
However when the new Snake Lair playset was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con 2024, it hardly resembled the concept art fans actually voted for.
So after a customer survey, Mattel canceled the crowdfunding campaign and promised a future retool of the Snake Lair.
So what do fans think of this retooled Snake Lair 2.0 Playset now that it has been revealed? We shall see!

Such a relief that they kept the snake tower on the side — it definitely adds a significant bonus to Axel’s initial design.
But now the big question is: could the Rattle Snake vehicle be subject to retention based on the number of reservations acquired?
Damn! Better. Much better.
So far it’s fine so long as the price isn’t completely mental. People won’t be happy though if they do stupid stuff with the tiers like putting the remaining snakes behind them after the insane snake invasion we’ve been subjected to. Or essentially pay walling them with the playset.
They really have to factor in that, no ifs or buts, this as it stands could be a retail item via fan channel like they’ve just done with two playsets!
It’s darker in the color compared to the art but I think it’s an improvement. I wonder how much it’s going to cost.
Looks much improved from the previous version and is respectful to the original concept art. Hopefully, the price reflects the reduced scale and folks are happy to crowdfund it and pick it up. The two headed snake horse looks pretty cool too.
But I’ll say it for all the Origin’s fans out there…. Mattel will do anything but release Two-Bad

I hope the iron maiden is still there. It was always in the concept artwork.
