What do they mean by modern identity? I know they said they would be leaning into What truly makes you masculine and a Man, but I'm confused. I'm still very excited though! I can't wait for an official encyclopedia.
THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING! PLEASE LET NICK AND CAMILIA DO THE VOICES! YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!
This puts the nail in the coffin for a Revolution sequel doesn't it.

It certainly makes clear why there hasn’t been a sequel so far. I wonder though, if it could still happen if the movie is a good success, or simply as a next thing once the movie PR has calmed down afterwards.
Perhaps to fill the time until a movie sequel comes ??? One can dream.
Not to be super skeptical, this sounds all like big, well laid plans, but we’ll have to see if really *all* of this comes to fruition. I’m also curious how a prequel animated series would work if Adam is not yet on Eternia? His youth on Earth??? Stories of Skeletors conquest of Eternia prior to the film?
Without speculating and spoiling too much here, I suppose there are ways to make it work, to have prequel stories *with* He-Man on Eternia. Or with another champion of Grayskull…
In any case, Mattel is absolutely right to go all in. Since 2020, they have been investing into MOTU brand recognition. Now is the next step up, for the sake of the film. Let’s Go! More toyzzzzz!!!!

I like that dream. What worries me is the ratings. Everyone blames the show ending a season early because of the She-ra rights but AJ wrote a couple posts that the ratings were down for Revolution. I can't see Netflix starting again if the ratings were bad.

Wow. Just wow. Yep I came into the fandom at just the right time.
I honestly don't know HOW a prequel animated series to the upcoming film at least is going to work because from what we know, the movie starts off with 10-year old Adam sent to Earth for protection for 20 or so years (hopefully the Earth stuff I'm betting will just be the first 10-20 minutes of the movie showing Adam's very average life until Teela finds him and the real plot kicks in)
BUT I actually have a detailed idea of how I would personally execute an animated mini-series detailing the origins of Skeletor and mainly his relationship with Randor and a few others and how they crumble apart and it's a new unique take, but I would compare it to some of my favorite movies with the same basic premise. Prince of Egypt, Revenge of the Sith and most recently, Transformers One.
I know nobody at Mattel nor Amazon MGM but I would pitch them it.
It would really work better as a 6-8 episode one season mini-series, but the way I'm envisioning it does have a good amount of change to the usual Skeletor Origin, but hey so did Transformers One and that movie was peak. Interesting differences.
Gimme it all!
The prequel series is interesting news but I haven't seen anyone mention the other interesting blurb there that we're also getting animated character shorts too. I'd assume these will drop on YouTube and the series on Prime video.
The fact we're getting players from the movie is something! Wasn't the rumor that the movie figures were Masterverse scale? Does this mean slightly larger scaled playsets then to go with them?!
All in all super excited though! This seems like the calm before the storm and they'll elaborate more at BLE which is just over 4 weeks away.

My guess is that ludicrous character list is all at the beginning of the movie and results in Adam being sent to Earth, Superman-style. Teela grows up during the war and brings him back.
Excellent! Hopefully, there will be an option to choose between the animated and live-action movie designs for a few of them, most notably Goat Man. How frustrating that they didn't give him a shot in the MV Revelation toy line!
@sketchyskeletor I'm glad they clarified that he's sent to Earth when he's 10 yeah which was most likely on the filmmakers part once they heard Gunn was making Superman. I think the real question should be who will he be raised by and will he even have memories of Eternia until Teela shows up?
Now in an adaptation like this we probably shouldn't question who is gonna raise Adam, but I could've sworn I've read one plot synopsis saying he was sent to live with family. As in Marlena's family? Like her parents or siblings? She somehow contacted them on Earth after being stranded on Eternia and secretly kept in touch with them?
And if Adam does keep his Eternian memories throughout his youth, I'm definitely betting there will be a montage of him growing up weirdly trying to conform to Earth society.
And also maybe in a way the main protagonist of the franchise will also act as the general audience surrogate in an, I wouldn't say "Fish-out-of-water" story like Thor, Elf or Coming to America, but rather more of a "Fish-getting-back-in-the-water" story as when he gets back to Eternia he doesn't realistically react baffled or confused, but rather points out the familiar stuff he remembers from his childhood, thus explaining the world to casual moviegoers.
It may or may not happen, but if what I'm describing may somewhat be accurate, this could be a REALLY unique, interesting and engaging film to casual audiences with the way it's executed and probably the best way they can justify part of the movie being set on Earth.

Don't make me cry y'all. They need to finish the third season. I need to see hunky Adam 😍 and hot Teela 😍 have twins of their own.

Maybe Queen Marlana escapes back to Earth with him? I could of swore I read an early outline for the movie where after Adam gets sent to Earth, he grows up knowing about the Masters of the Universe because on Earth it was a popular toy line and cartoon?
If that were true then my own head Canon based on nothing is that the MOTU toys and cartoon was just a low key way to inform Adam while growing up about his past and future destiny all cooked up by someone sent to Earth to watch over him. Cue Orko cameo. 😆

For me it's all an unnecessary wrinkle. If you can't afford to film Eternia but somehow have an endless list of characters for said Eternia, it would have made more sense to have Zoar guide Adam to a cave and get the sword in a couple of scenes. You could have put all those villains in a scene around that looking for him. Let's be honest, they're only around for the toy designs.
Yep, looks like the past SDCC was the last presentation of product for a while without a movie connection. It was the calm before the storm indeed, just really focusing on toy designs. But we did see quite a lot and as a fan of toy design first and foremost, I may regret what is coming up now lol
Not really. Even though some here have fought me tooth and nail about it, to me More MOTU is more better! Rising tide lifts all the boats!
From now on, the movie will be big in every convention, show, presentation etc. For a while at least! I guess 200X Origins and some of the Creations exclusives will be doing their own thing, still.
All in all though I’m looking forward to the crazy ride!

Hold up. Early outline? Like how early? Because this movie's been in development hell since idk 2006-07-ish? So Adam knows about MOTU as a franchise and the movie was basically gonna be one of those "The real life fiction that people in this movie are also consuming is unbeknownst to them based on a true story within said movie that they are in" schticks? And not like a self-aware fourth wall break in the context of the story?
Literally the only other example I can think of off the top of my head that kinda did this in no joke the sh*t 2011 Smurfs movie with Neil Patrick Harris but I'm sure there's other examples if you catch my drift.
Side-note those terrible Smurf movies are the only things I've seen Neil Patrick Harris in but at least they're the type of bad movies with one stand out performance. Yeah casting the guy who's half of the supporting Simpsons characters to play an iconic live-action cartoon villain paid off.
@sketchyskeletor We all assumed for the worst when the first plot synopsis for the film was revealed and filming started, yeah we all assumed for the worst and an '87 repeat but from all what we know, it seems that this movie will basically be very green screen, CG and VFX heavy with some cool physical indoor studio sets because they only filmed outdoors in two places in the UK.
May be related, but the fact that they reveal that GOAT MAN of all characters is apart of the cast tells me that the filmmakers intentionally chose an obscure character out of a hat to put in the movie and even before releasing a trailer basically telling fans "Hey we KNOW our MOTU history and lore! No need to worry, fans!"

I'd have way more faith if that cast list wasn't a mile long - we all know how that went with Bumblebee and said movie is only 'loved' because it's slightly less shite than a Michael Bay dumbfest.
And Jared Leto? Of all the actors on the planet?
My gut's telling me it's half a comedy instead of a straightforward telling, but we'll see.
Could it be about He-Ro and that is why Mattel is making all the figures from Eternia's past?
Hmmm just an FYI but it seems like Toy World has edited the Mattel supplement to remove any mention of the prequel animated series and character shorts.

Guess it was too soon to announce?
