Leto sucks but I like Tron so I'm going. The NIN soundtrack sounds like a banger.

Tron Ares was really good. It's my second favorite in the series. It was much better than anything Marvel has put out in years and the soundtrack rocks. 8/10

I saw it. I liked it. Fight me.

Rotten Tomatoes audience popcornmeter is at 87%. Don't trust all the antiwoke angry reviews. Watch it for yourself. It's good.

Tron was fine. Leto was fine. It was a decent popcorn movie especially if you like the universe.

Finally sat down and watched Ares.

I had mixed feelings going in. The trailer looked amazing.

But as details came up, like no Tron in it.
Or no Sam or Quorra in it.

Or how Leto basically hijacked the film and rewrote it to revolve around him.

I fully walked into it expecting it to be awful.

But I always try to give things a fair chance.

And to be honest...I didn't hate it.

Its a decent story, a fun film, but the problem with it is pretty simple.

Its a good story set in the Tron Universe, but its a side quest that disappoints because I think we all hoped for a continuation of the story from Legacy, not a film where were told...eh...ignore those characters here's new ones.

Its like Halloween 1-3...two films of characters some carry over from the first film to the second, new ones added and...deleted...and then...none of them return. Now Halloween 3 is actually a damn good film...it just not what fans were looking for.

Tron Ares is just like that.
Its actually a decent film...its just not what fans were looking for.

A similar thing can be said about the film version of Jem and the Holograms. If you take that film on its own its not god awful. Its a film where a young group of teens navigate the treacherous world of the music industry, while discovering a truth about themselves and their father. Its a decent teen film with fun music.

Is it a good adaption of the source material?

By no means.

Ares is as I said...a side quest. A decent spin off or film set in that universe, and I think if they had made a film or more likely a 2 part film to combine a continued story from Legacy with those characters where Ares is introduced and eventually becomes and ally...I think we would have been great. But in the end Ares near ignoring of the characters and lack of continuing that story in favor of just tossing a barely connected story really causes all the problems film goers might have had.

Just an opinion.

@allhailmotherboard I agree completely. It was a well-made, fun, kinetic action film. Describing it as a side quest in the Tron universe is spot on. My Mom went with my son and I to see Ares. She hadn't seen Legacy and enjoyed Ares more than we did. It's like a lower-tier 28 Years Later vibe. Yeah the story is cool, but what about the characters from 28 Days Later? They seem to be connecting things in their final film but I don't know if we'll get that with Tron. I enjoyed Ares and would watch it again, but I really would like to know what happens with Sam, Quorra, etc.

The soundtrack was great, but the movie itself completely trivialized everything that Legacy set up. It made going into and getting out of the grid as trivial as beaming somewhere in Star Trek. To me, that was a major fumble considering getting out of a Grid was a major plot point of Legacy and it's supporting media. The new CEO, as written, was clearly Sam in earlier drafts. And there was zero explanation for Flynn's existence (despite the theories out there.) Finally, no TRON; Leto claimed to be a major Tron fan, but didn't fight to get Bruce in this movie?? Ares, to me, was a paint-by-the-numbers Tron movie that didn't live up to the standards that Legacy set. Not bad, but as mentioned above, it's a side quest movie.
