@bonezone Agree... and, I might even add that maybe it's a bit too early to be addressing the Susan pregnancy / Franklin Richards saga...

Did Iron Studios just drop a huge spoiler?!?

I'm having a hard time with Ben's 'beard'... no pun intended.

@durendal Yep, I hear you.
These past few years, I've learned to keep my expectations low.
Everything in Phase 4 and onward has been more misses than hits... the new Marvel Studios ideology of appeasing the 'modern audience' has destroyed any credibility they had coming in, and obliterated the good faith that they built with the fan base.
Brave New World was a bust... Thunderbolts feels worn out, Daredevil Born Again is a f'king disgrace, and I won't even consider touching Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (absolute garbage...)
I haven't got a lot of faith in Marvel Studios to be honest... and, in fact, I'm hoping that DC / Warner play their cards right because this would be a prime opportunity to take the reigns from Marvel.
The only problem there is that superhero fatigue is real. And it's showing up in the box office numbers.

I agree only I don't think we can actually tell if superhero fatigue is real yet because it's a real mix of
There hasn't been a good Marvel movie in years.
Deadpool 3 arguably wasn't a good movie but was treated as an 'event', which is definitely a thing now. It made a fortune.
People now wait for streaming. And as above with 'event' movies, cinema attendance is WAY down whatever.
We won't even be able to tell conclusively with Superman because that's a James Gunn movie through and through... the studios are in a mess they keep recreating!
@ornclown What did you not like about Daredevil Reborn? I thought it recaptured the dark tone of the original Netflix series quite well.

As a gritty street-hero show, I suppose it's okay... but, as a Daredevil show, and one that has the gall to use the Born Again moniker (note: DD #'s 227 through 233 are in my top greatest comics of all time), it just didn't do it for me.
Perhaps I was expecting an adaptation of the phenomenal Miller story and have sour grapes over not seeing it... but most likely, it was just the ho-hum villains like Muse, the ridiculous addition of White Tiger, the underutilized Punisher, the awful Fisk family drama, or the Disney+ habit of not actually wrapping up a story and stopping on a cliffhanger.
Also... this version of Matt Murdock lost a lot of credibility with me after his appearance in She-Hulk.

I'm of two minds on this...
One, I wouldn't mind seeing James Gunn become DC's Kevin Feige - insofar as he helps to set a roadmap for the DCU and lets his moviemakers do the rest. Another Snyder we do not need. Also on that note, leave the "dark" "gritty" "realism" on the cutting room floor as well... that works decently with Batman, however the DC Universe is chock full of bright, fun, energetic superheroes that should remind us of the days we parked our bikes outside of the comic shop and got lost in fantastic storytelling for hours at a time.
Two, I'm already concerned about oversaturation with Superman. There seems to be A LOT going on in this movie, and I feel that Gunn is trying too hard to get some of the most striking, yet obscure DC characters into the fold. A DC GotG we do not need...(yet.) Give this universe some time to breathe and let the main cast of characters have their time in the spotlight before creating the next big (ugh, I hate even typing this) crossover event.
I honestly believe that if DC / WB can just make fun, well-written movies first, and superhero movies second, then the audiences will show up. However, if the focus is on BAM! Superhero in your face! BOOM! Another supervillain to keep track of! BANG! World-ending event imminent!! Then the fatigue will be real, and the casual moviegoer will continue to drift away...

No matter what happens with Superman he is doing a disservice to ALL the characters there's so many of them. He's just not the guy for DC, he specialises in kooky comedy team ups and that's not what Superman or the wider DCU should ever be.
@sketchyskeletor I hope DC didn't "right the Snyder ship" too the other extreme...
Zack's movies were overly dark, serious, and depressing... hopefully, James' movies don't turn out to be overly opposite.
Like I said, if Gunn helps direct the DCU trajectory but lets his moviemakers do the work, the DC Cinematic Universe could rebound off of the recent MCU failures. (Of which, WB could learn what NOT to do!)

I saw FF First Steps this Sunday and I was really impressed with the whole thing.
The movie truly feels like a return to form for the superhero genre... and this being Marvel's first family, the familial bonds take center stage throughout the entire film.
It is a fun dynamic that never feels overbearing or lacking merit... it actually just feels normal and authentic watching a marital spat between Reed and Sue or Johnny antagonizing Ben like a younger brother would. The small interactions between the four are a breath of fresh air narrative-wise and then, when the big threat rears its head, they take that family bond to the next level and work together to find a solution.
Skipping the ubiquitous "origin story" was the right move. Instead, they wisely chose to cover the exploits of the FF's first four years in a cool montage - which, BTW, is taken directly from the Kirby / Lee original run on the comic book! (Yep, including all those funky villains that the FF faced in their first exploits!)
It's already been mentioned numerous times, but deserves another nod, the retro-futuristic / art-deco aesthetic works incredibly well with this whole project. It really lends a lot of credence to the story and the world in which it plays out.
If I had to list any gripes, it would be that the Thing's CGI is sometimes not up to snuff (such as sitting on a bed and the bed hardly looking like any weight has been put on it) and the fact that we don't get to see the heroes being heroic for much of the time. We rarely get to see their individual powers / abilities until late into the third act. Also, Galactus, while done really well in this movie, didn't feel as big of a threat that he should have... I mean, he devours planets for goodness sake! Yet, the team treats him kind of like a doofus...?
While I like the cast, Vanessa and Pedro didn't immediately swoon me... I eventually grew to love them, but I worry about future installments of this franchise with such big / older actors.
Finally, since this is an alternate Earth (I won't spoil which one because it is a cool nod), there is still hope for the TRUE SILVER SURFER to show up in the MCU. This was my biggest worry going into FF First Steps... and I have to say, some of it still lingers, but I have a renewed hope for my favorite Marvel character's silver screen future.
Anywho... I would certainly recommend this movie to comic fans and non comic fans alike. There is a lot to like here, and the lack of any special accommodations for modern audiences is a nice change from the recent string of retcons, reboots, retellings, and omissions in the MCU.

IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!!
I really liked it. The cast was great. Galactus looked like Galactus. I want to see it again before I give my final thoughts but right now I'd say it's in the top tier of Marvel movies!

Just saw it yesterday. It was pretty good, but despite all the new faces on screen, I felt like I'd seen it all before. Same plot and setting as several other super hero films...
