I know y'all may be confused by the title but let me explain.
In case y'all don't know the new Sonic the Hedgehog racing game has been doing really well, with some even preferring it to the new, semi-controversial among fans Mario Kart. Been playing a helluva a lot of it.
Kart or hoverboard. Customizable vehicles. Flight and boat sections in the tracks. The titular crossworlds mechanic that can straight up portal you to another random track at the beginning of a lap. A roster of fan favorite Sonic characters (Silver is my fav). Really recommend to any hardcore Sonic fan such as myself or if you just wanna play a really fun game in general.
But how does this relate to MOTU? Well honestly Sonic is my dream MOTU crossover. I know that may seem absurd on the surface, even the guys in the Origins forum debated with me about it for a bit.
Y'know what? Alright. Sonic/MOTU aka the coolest shit of all time aka Hordak vs. Shadow the Hedgehog is just a big pipe dream of mine. But what if the most powerful man in the universe and the fastest thing alive crossed paths another way? Because Sega is taking the Crossworlds title more than you think.
The game already has a year ahead worth of post launch content consisting of free DLC characters, such as Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from the Yakuza series and Joker from Persona 5 and DLC packs of non-Sega franchises, such as Minecraft, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ninja Turtles, Avatar the Last Airbender and......Spongebob......no I am not joking.
But this is just may be the beginning, as today an interview with Sonic series producer, Takashi Izuka was posted where he discusses the success of the game and teases that if the game keeps selling, it may get a second, maybe even third year of more content.
And considering the movie next year and the potential of MOTU gaining mainstream popularity on a level not since the brand's heyday 80s if the movie is good like how Sonic himself had this with his movies or Transformers in 2007
He-Man, Skeletor and She-Ra in this Sonic kart racer equivalent to Fortnite shouldn't be a stretch if it already is gonna have characters from Sega games where you beat the shit out of Yakuza members or lead a group of violent thieves alongside Minecraft Jack Black Steve and friggin' Spongebob.
At least imagine how kickass an Eternia track complete with Eternos, Snake Mountain, Castle Grayskull would be? Especially when you consider the game's air and boat mechanics and the fact that a first lap is normal, the second portaling to a crossworld and the final lap takes you back to where you started but the track is altered in an either minor (stuff like more obstacles) or significant way (half of the track being a different route)
