MasterChef Australia Season 16 has announced its return for Monday April 22!

I am so excited and hopefully I'll make new friends to join my list of MC favourites!

While Andy Allen will be returning as a judge, he will be joined by new judges, popular MC alumnus Poh Ling Yeow, food critic Sofia Levin and star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.

Β
It's going to be hard watching without the sadly late Jock Zonfrillo though.

However, former MC judge Melissa Leong will be back later in the year with Amaury Guichon in the amazing spin-off Dessert Masters!

Β
All my MC news and updates will take place in this thread! πŸ˜€Β

I love MasterChef, and I get attached to contestants each year, I rejoice in their successes and feel sad when they are sent home. I tried to express this to people a season or so ago, but people tried to tell me they aren't "real friends" and I shouldn't be so silly and sentimental. That is just the way I am, always have been and will always be.

Because of illness, disability and depression, it is hard for me to get out and about and pretty much my whole social life is online now. I know that makes me sad and pathetic, but I really get a warm fuzzy feeling when I reach out to people and they seem to appreciate it. I would hate to go through life and feel me and my life have not mattered at all to anyone.

I want to be like this new contestant Juan De La Cruz who has already captured people's hearts in preview clips, before the season has even airs, and I also want to shine my light for all the world to see. People like this are a symbol for who I would love to be. 😍

I just wanted to share this dish. Sadly, it wasn't the winning dish of the night (although in my view it SHOULD have been).Β Β This fabulous dish was created by my new buddy and favourite contestantΒ Juan De La Cruz. It is a vegetarian dish comprised of a porridge-like corn dish, cheese balls and chilli oil. Juan's bubbly personality and absolute HOTNESS is matched by his obvious culinary skills! His dish was a success, but not the best dish (according to the judges). πŸ˜€

Β

The winning dish of the night was made by a lady namedΒ NatΒ whoΒ made a kangaroo tartare (not my idea of a great dish by any means and it looked kind of gross to be honest). It was served with beetroot relish, finger limes, edible flowers, chives and soya flavoured egg. She won the season's first and onlyΒ Immunity Pin, whereupon if she ever needs to bail on a challenge to avoid elimination, she now has that possibility. She also won a week's training and work in one ofΒ Jamie Oliver'sΒ London restaurants.
Β
Also, one contestant named Lily had the first disaster of the season, she tried to make choux pastry buns for part of her dish, but they were soggy and raw inside. Thankfully this wasn't an Elimination or she would have gone home. 😩
Β
There will most likely be a few opportunities for the contestants to win automatic immunity throughout the season, but this was the only pin for the year.
Β
Β
The other night we saw the welcome faces of past contestants (always a delight) and the current contestants face their firstΒ Service Challenge,Β the 22Β contestants had to prepare a three course meal for the judges and a delightful set of guests - past MasterChef alumni!

The contestants reached into a bag and drew a coloured apron, eitherΒ BurgundyΒ orΒ Purple, there wereΒ 11Β people on each team.

They were then given core ingredients from the judges - mushrooms for the entree, chillies and cashews for the main and grapefruit for the dessert.

The Purple Team led byΒ MimiΒ included my new buddyΒ Juan.Β TheyΒ made pork wontons in mushroom broth for the entree, peppery lamb with pepper/chilli sauce and a cashew crumb for the main, and grapefruit infused date sponge with vanilla bean ice cream.

The Burgundy TeamΒ made scallops in a mushroom broth for the entree, fish served with a cashew and chilli curry, and a meringue with grapefruit sauce for the dessert.

I really wanted Juan to have a chance at theΒ Immunity ChallengeΒ where the winning team will have a chance to win immunity for the maker of the best dish from the first elimination later in the week.

However,Β Team Burgundy, led byΒ SavΒ won the challenge.

Tonight onΒ MasterChef, theΒ 11Β members of the winningΒ Burgundy TeamΒ from last night had to make food the judges could eat with their hands for theΒ Immunity Challenge Part 1.

The best five dishesΒ (Sumeet, Sav, Lourdes, Snezana & Stephen)Β saw their creators go straight into tomorrow night'sΒ Immunity Challenge Part 2Β where the winner is automatically immune fromΒ SundayΒ night'sΒ Elimination Challenge.Β No episodes onΒ FridayΒ orΒ SaturdayΒ as usual.

SumeetΒ made pani puri, a kind of dumpling you could hollow out and fill with a spiced potato salad, tamarind and date chutney and mint and coriander pesto and mint & coriander water to bring it all together.

Β
SavΒ made seeni sambol which are egg & prawn buns with a prawn aioli & sweet tomato sauce.

LourdesΒ made lemon meringue bites with lemon curd and lemon cream which looked absolutely fabulous.

SnezanaΒ made krofne, a type of jelly doughnut from Serbia.

StephenΒ made pork belly with whiskey & tamarind sauce and charred corn ribs.

On the other hand,Β AlexΒ had a disaster, the peri peri prawns she cooked on the hibachi filled the whole kitchen with smoke and some of the prawns were half raw and half overcooked at the same time! If this were Sunday, she would be going home!

Β
Tonight on MasterChef, the 5 winning contestants from last night (Stephen, Sav, Sumeet, Snezana & Lourdes) vied for the chance to win automatic immunity from Sunday night's first elimination of the season.

They had a choice of working with ONE ingredient with a cooking time of 90 Minutes, or Up To TWENTY ingredients with a cooking time of 45 Minutes.

Stephen & Snezana chose the one ingredient with 90 minutes, working with macadamia nuts and onions respectively.

Stephen made macadamia gateau with meringue, cream and toffee-toasted nuts. The presentation was considered overly rustic and not very sophisticated.

Snezana made ricotta and caramelised onion tortellini with onion crisps, onion puree, pickled onion and onion broth. Her dish was judged as being too elaborate with too many elements going on.

Lourdes, Sumeet & Savindri (Sav)chose up to twenty ingredients and 45 minutes.

Sav made mango and squid ceviche with crispy potatoes, coconut cream and coriander oil. Her dish was exceptional and was judged as being restaurant quality.

Β
Sumeet made tandoori prawns with capsicum and onions.Β Her dish was smoked, flavoured and presented well.Β

Lourdes made pork medallions served on a bed of corn and bacon salsa. First she undercooked the pork, and then when she tried to put it back on to cook, she overcooked it. Not a good night for her. If this had been Sunday, she would have gone home.

The winning dish of the night was Sav who has won immunity from Sunday. She is definitely going to be hard to beat!

Β
Β
Also,Β NatΒ still has herΒ Immunity PinΒ from Monday night's win should she need it.
Β
My new MasterChef buddyΒ Juan De La CruzΒ is actually following me on Instagram now too, so we were destined to be great buddies!β€οΈπŸ˜ƒ

The other night onΒ MasterChefΒ was aΒ Pressure TestΒ forΒ Stephen, Steph, Lily, Sumeet & Josh ClarkeΒ (there are twoΒ Josh'sΒ -Β Clarke & PerryΒ - so I refer to them by full name).

Β
Guest judge Jamie OliverΒ made a chicken fillet roll stuffed with mushrooms, herbs and liver, covered in pastry and served with mashed potato & celeriac with blanched asparagus and white beans, and served on a mustard and white wine sauce. The challenge was to recreate the same dish and keep up with Jamie as he made it.
Β
Sumeet & Josh CΒ delivered nearly identical dishes to Jamie's and were theΒ Top 2. They had little to no flaws.
Β
StephenΒ made a couple of bad mistakes - first he cooked the liver before he was supposed to and nearly forgot about the herbs completely. Then later he put the potatoes and celeriac into the frying pan with the mushroom/herb/liver mix instead of the saucepan for cooking and mashing. He managed to salvage his dish both times and although I was sure he was going to be eliminated, he actually pulled it off!
Β
Lily'sΒ chicken roll was slightly overcooked but her vegetables saved her.
Β
As forΒ Steph, she cut the chicken membrane (despite being told not to, but in her defence she did so before being told not to). This made the fillet extremely hard to stuff and she barely had any stuffing in the roll because the chicken couldn't keep its structure. Before putting the roll in the oven, she also forgot to egg wash the pastry. Her dish was overcooked, not filled enough and basically was a disaster. Her habit of not listening was her undoing and she was the second person eliminated after James was eliminated a week before.
Β
Sunday night will be the third elimination.

The other night onΒ MasterChef, judgeΒ Andy Allen'sΒ motherΒ MareeΒ was a guest judge! The challenge was to take one of Maree's recipes (she admitted she is not reallyΒ MasterChefΒ material when it comes to cooking) and then MAKE itΒ MasterChefΒ ready, take a dish and make it better and different.

Β
The base dishes fromΒ MareeΒ were a "Hawaiian pineapple burger" (made with half a muffin with tomato paste, pineapple, cheese and ham on it), the boring old lamb chop with three vegetables, or a fruit and jelly slice.
Β
Sumeet, Stephen, Sue, Josh Perry, & MimiΒ had all won immunity the other night and did not need to compete in thisΒ Elimination Challenge.Β
Β
The five least impressive dishes from the first round were sent into the actual elimination round while everyone else was safe.
Β
Highlights includedΒ Juan'sΒ Argentinian Pascualina (see picture) - a big cheesy gluten free pie servedΒ with tomato and basil pearls, andΒ Alex'sΒ fruit ravioli with apple and strawberry filling, vanilla cream and a coconut crumb.Β
Β
Another standout dish wasΒ Snezana'sΒ carrot strips fashioned into a rose and served with caramelised vegetables.Β
Β
On the other end of the scale, the five least impressive dishes belonged toΒ Nat, Gillian, Harry, Jonathan & DarrshΒ who had to make a second dish to try and escape elimination. They had to make dishes inspired by their own families this time.
Β
NatΒ still has herΒ Immunity PinΒ which she still refused to cash in. She andΒ GillianΒ made pork belly with rice dishes, slightly different but both highly spiced.Β NatΒ was lucky she didn't cash in her pin because she didn't need to andΒ Gillian'sΒ recovery dish also impressed the judges.
Β
Darrsh'sΒ Sri Lankan beef curry also redeemed him.
Β
The bottom two came down toΒ Harry & JonathanΒ who both made homemade pasta with beef ragu. Both were undercooked, butΒ Jonathan'sΒ pasta was thick, chunky and considered "clumsy", so it was he who was eliminated.
Β
Β
Last night on MasterChef, the contestants were given an extra large Mystery Box, inside there were a bunch of ingredients and four smaller Mystery Boxes, each one had the name of one of the judges (Andy, Poh, Sofia & Jean-Christophe) on it. The contestants were told they had to use those ingredients (nectarines, quail, thyme, parsnips & nduja - a type of salami paste) and none from the pantry or garden. They were allowed to use the under the bench staples though. They were instructed to start cooking a dish and then30 minutes into the cook, they could choose ONE of the judges' boxes and they had to use that ingredient in their established dish.

Β
Andy offeredΒ vino cotto.
Β
Poh offered lychees.
Β
Sofia offered fennel seeds.
Β
Jean-Cristophe offered vanilla beans.
Β
Highlights of the night includedΒ Lachlan'sΒ roast quail-pops (the first ever savoury lollipop),Β Lily's roast quail served with a spiced parsnip puree,Β Nat's spicy ramen soup, Josh Clarke's empanadas (inspired by Juan De La Cruz no doubt), and from my boy himself, Juan's tiny crunchy gluten free puff parcels with quail and nduja filling with eggless mayonnaise infused with nectarine, vanilla and thyme.
Β
The funniest part of tonight's proceedings was after Josh C gave his dish to the judges, we saw Sofia take one of the empanadas across the room and give it to Juan - he wanted one too! πŸ˜€Β
Β
Unfortunately, there were four clunkers made byΒ Sumeet, Khristian, Mimi & Snezana that landed them in the bottom four leading into tonight'sΒ Pressure TestΒ after which one of them will be eliminated!
Β
Snezana & SumeetΒ severely undercooked their quail,Β Khristian'sΒ sweet-savouryΒ quail and vanilla & nectarineΒ experimentΒ failed to wow the judges (they also practically needed a microscope to find the food), andΒ MimiΒ forgot to put in the shallot oil infused with vino cottaΒ - the judges' ingredientsΒ HADΒ to be incorporated into the dish and she forgot which ensured an automatic bottom spot.
Β
Tonight,Β Sumeet, Snezana, Khristian & MimiΒ have to recreate one ofΒ Jean-Cristophe Novelli'sΒ most elaborate desserts! The least impressive version will mean an elimination.

Last night onΒ MasterChefΒ was aΒ Pressure Test Elimination, asΒ Snezana, Sumeet, Mimi & KhristianΒ had to recreate judgeΒ Jean-Cristophe Novelli'sΒ "Jack In The Box"Β dessert which consisted of a layer of whiskey-infused chocolate and hazelnut brownie, chocolate and vanilla mousse, and white chocolate cream, encased in a melted sugar-crystal box, set with roasted hazelnuts, served with berries and thin spirals of sugar.

SnezanaΒ had problems with her chocolate and she required four attempts at trying to get it right, but she eventually triumphed with the dish as a whole.
Β
SumeetΒ had a few problems with her sugar box which kept cracking and required several attempts but she also performed well as a whole.
Β
MimiΒ had trouble with her mousse being too grainy and lacking enough vanilla. She also had problems with her sugar box.
Β
Sadly,Β KhristianΒ had the most problems with his sugar box cracking, his layers being inconsistent, and most of all, he forgot the hazelnut elements completely, which led to his elimination.
Β
Tonight is a two-roundΒ Service ChallengeΒ with the winning team winningΒ ImmunityΒ from Sunday night's nextΒ Elimination Challenge.
Β
I'm hoping my boy Juan De La Cruz wins the immunity tonight! πŸ˜€Β

Tonight's MasterChef is going to be an epic two-round Immunity Challenge where the winning team will be safe from Sunday night's Elimination Challenge.

I am hoping Team Gray wins, because it has Juan De La Cruz (paired with Snezana Calic & Sue Bazely).

Tonight onΒ MasterChef, theΒ Immunity ChallengeΒ was in two rounds. TheΒ 18Β remaining contestants were split intoΒ 6Β teams ofΒ 3Β with a matching coloured apron.

Β
The teams had to choose one of the trio to cook for and represent that team with the ingredient chosen for them by the judges.
Β

Team Gray (Juan, Snezana & Sue) received turnips. Sue was chosen and she madeΒ made turnip gnocchi that was criticised for being slightly flavourless but it was beautifully presented.
Β
Team Orange (Sumeet, David & Harry) received tofu. Sumeet was chosen and she made chilli tofu which the judges thought was way too spicy and overpowered by chilli.
Β
Team Brown (Mimi, Lourdes & Lachlan) received corn. Mimi was chosen and she madeΒ honey potato crisps with corn ice-cream, caramel corn kernels and parmesan cheese which completely blew the judges away and was deemed 'one of the best dishes of the competition'.
Β
Team Green (Savindri, Lily & Gillian)Β received ketchup. Savindri was chosen and she madeΒ rasam (a tomato based seafood soup) which was delicious and had wonderful flavours and textures, the judges praised her.
Β
Team Turquoise (Alex, Nat & Josh Clarke) received olives. Josh Clarke was chosen and he made olive oilΒ panna cotta which was overall tasty but lacked minor flavourings and it did not set, making it a runny mess.
Β
Team Purple (Darrsh, Stephen & Josh Perry) received chickpeas. Darrsh was chosen and he madeΒ chickpea curry which had a beautiful texture and the roti was wonderful, but it was a bit bland.
Β
Β Instead of the whole winning team winning immunity as I initially thought, the trio who won had to compete against each other in the second round where there could only be one winner.

Β
Sadly,Β SueΒ did not win theΒ challenge, soΒ Juan'sΒ team did not win a chance at immunity, thereforeΒ JuanΒ didn't have a chance at immunity, so he's still vulnerable.
Β
Β
The winners of this challenge wereΒ Team Brown - Mimi,Β Lourdes & Lachlan!Β Although Mimi won the challenge, she enabled Lourdes & Lachlan to compete for a chance at immunity as well.
Β
Β
However, this trio were now competing against each other in the second round instead of being team-mates in the first round. The person who won the second round is automatically immune from Sunday's Elimination Challenge.Β
Β
Lourdes made barbecuedΒ banana buttermilk pancakes, lavished with salted caramel and chantilly cream and chopped nuts which were deemed simple but perfect.
Β
MimiΒ alsoΒ made barbecuedΒ pancakes, she attempted to disguise the bitter burned parts by glazing them with honey, and they were slightly bland, even with cream.
Β
Lachlan made sweet barbequed roti, which lacked the proper layering, although his soy saucedΒ glazed pineapple was exquisite though. He took four tries at making the roti bread, first he overgreased the bench and the dough stuck, then he forgot to grease the barbecue and the dough stuck, then he dropped the dough on the ground, until finally he got it right. By then it was too late.
Β
The winner of the immunity was Lourdes! She is now safe from Sunday.
Β
The elimination round is also a two-rounder. In the first round, the contestants will be blindfolded and must taste test these colourful cubes of whatever they are (we'll know on Sunday). The first (however many) who guess wrong will have to play the actual Elimination Challenge.
Β
They have done these blindfolded taste tests in earlier seasons (sometimes herbs, sometimes popcorn, sometimes edible pearls...), and they are an interesting challenge, although I would personally not want to be blindfolded and have to eat something where I don't know what I am getting. It could be really nice or really gross.
Β
NatΒ also still has herΒ Immunity PinΒ should she need it.
Β
Β
Mimi's honey potato crisps with corn ice cream, corn kernels and parmesan cheese:

Tonight onΒ MasterChef, the contestants had to taste test all these little cubes of food with a blindfold on. The firstΒ 6Β to guess incorrectlyΒ (Juan, Lily, Sumeet, Stephen, Josh Clarke & Mimi)Β had to play theΒ Elimination RoundΒ where they had to make a dish with the ingredients that had been cubed on the judges table. They were not allowed to use the pantry, garden or under the bench staples this time.

Β
Lourdes had won immunity the other night and Nat still has her Immunity Pin (which she didn't need).

Β
Top Four:
Β
StephenΒ made feta cheese and ricotta filled beetroot ravioli with black garlic and pistachio sauce and a beetroot reduction. He had a few slip-ups, like spilling the sauce everywhere and the judges were afraid he needed a back-up plan, but he showed them he didn't.
Β
Sumeet made a pumpkin, beetrootΒ and coconut milk soup, and was judged as one the evening's successes.
Β
Mimi made a savoury breakfast oatmeal and adorned it with charred corn, fried ginger, pickled leeks, pork medallions and an egg. She was also judged well.
Β
Josh Clarke made a lobster and prawn bisque, and was considered the evening's best dish - see picture.
Β
Β
The Bottom Two:
Β
Sadly,Β JuanΒ was in the bottom two for the first - and hopefully the last time. His steak, domino potatoes and veggie salsa was considered too simple a dish although it was prepared perfectly.
Β
Lily, on the other hand (who also cooked a simple dish - chicken Maryland with charred leeks and mushroom sauce) served a plate where two elements (the chicken and the leeks) were severely undercooked, leading to her elimination.
Β
Monday is aΒ Mystery Box, the least successful dishes will lead their makers into Tuesday's elimination, then Wednesday (probably aΒ Service Challenge) is anΒ Immunity ChallengeΒ where someone (perhaps the winning team) will be safe from Sunday's elimination.

Last night onΒ MasterChef, the remaining contestants had to make French cuisine with the under the bench staples and a set of ingredients including a bouquet garni of assorted herbs, Dijon mustard, apples, French apple cider, duck, shallots, prunes, peas, butter, croissants, and mussels.
Β
My buddyΒ JuanΒ made a splendid raviolo (a single large ravioli rolled and boiled in the shape of a rose), served with peas and a beurre blanc sauce. The judges loved it, and he is well away from the bottom this time! He astounded the judges with his perfectly shaped pasta which didn't unravel while it was being cooked! See picture.
Β
Other outstanding dishes were Darrsh's caramelised shallot tarte tatin, Sue'sΒ apple tarte tatin,Β Stephen'sΒ duck and mussel duo served on a pea cream,Β David'sΒ rosemary and prune ice cream,Β Harry'sΒ duck pot pie, and choux buns with apple and cream fromΒ SumeetΒ (not in the bottomΒ this time).

Β
As for theΒ Bottom FourΒ who face aΒ Pressure TestΒ tonight from which someone will be eliminated.
Β
LourdesΒ whose olive oil ice cream sandwich melted everywhereΒ as it wasn't set.
Β
NatΒ whose croissant vol-au-vents were too dry. Remember, she still has anΒ Immunity PinΒ if she needs it.
Β
GillianΒ whose mussels didn't even open up as she left all the beard and bib stuff on them, and she tried to make her own onion butter (despite being offered a superior French butter) and served flatbread which looked and tasted like cardboard.
Β
AlexΒ whose homemade fettuccineΒ was undercooked although her mustard and herb sauce was considered delicious.

Tonight onΒ MasterChef, the contestants went on a road trip of sorts to aΒ Truffle Farm, where - you guessed it - they had to cook with truffles!Β Lourdes, Alex, Nat & GillianΒ (the bottom four from last night) all had to cook the same dish, created by guest chef Liam Downes. They had to make a large raviolo (singular of ravioli) with two different doughs - egg yolk and basil & spinach - rolled together to make a white and green striped piece of pasta, filled with ricotta, truffles and a soft boiled egg (which had to be runny), the raviolo was placed on a white asparagus puree, served with crispy chicken skin, and a reduced chicken sauce, and garnished with white asparagus spears, truffles, onion leaves and edible flowers.

AlexΒ had a lot of trouble with her dough, she kept cutting herself with the blades in the blender, and tainting the dough. She did this about three times before having the bright ideaΒ TO PUT GLOVES ONΒ - which she should have done in the first place! Thankfully she had enough dough ingredients to eventually make a near perfect dish.
Β
NatΒ again chose not to use herΒ Immunity Pin, which again, she did not need. She forgot to put the crispy chicken skin on the plate, but the rest of her elements were also near perfect.
Β
GillianΒ also had dough troubles, her dough kept sticking to everything and by the time she did manage to get the dough right, she only had enough elements to whack the raviolo on the plate and add a few garnishes, not the whole lot, neither of theΒ chicken elements, and the dish was incomplete.
Β
LourdesΒ failed to trim the fat off the chicken skin so it was a lumpy bumpy mess, her chicken sauce reduced too much and became a gelatinous mess, she also overcooked the egg which ended up hard boiled. She did have all the garnishes done though.
Β
The judges had a hard time deciding between theΒ Bottom Two (Lourdes & Gillian),Β but althoughΒ GillianΒ had half her elements missing, what she did have was cooked near perfectly.
Β
Β LourdesΒ served up anΒ absolute shambles of a dish in terms of texture and taste. The way the food looks does matter in the contest, but if the dish is poorly executed, then that takes precedence, so it wasΒ LourdesΒ who was eliminated.
Β
Tomorrow night is that dreaded challenge, theΒ Relay Race, where the contestants are sorted into teams by coloured apron and must cook their dish in a relay, where someone starts and then everyone else on the team adds to it after a certain amount of time, one after another. I'm assuming the winning team will be immune from Sunday's elimination.Β JuanΒ is on theΒ Green Team, so that's the colourΒ to cheer for!

Β
Tonight onΒ MasterChefΒ was theΒ Team Relay! The contestants were put into four groups of four and sorted by coloured apron. They all had to featureΒ tomatoesΒ as a main ingredient, and after theΒ Team LeaderΒ started the dish, one by one the other team members had to add to it bit by bit!
Β
Team Green: Juan, Sue, Gillian & Nat. Team Leader - Juan! They made a delightful pasta and tomato dish with basil oil and a cheesy breadcrumb, but it was considered oily (the crumb, not the whole dish). Still, it was my favourite dish out of all four!
Β
The other teams were:
Β
Team Navy Blue: Josh Perry, Josh Clarke, Snezana & Alex. Team Leader - Josh Perry! They made an oven roasted fish in a tomato sauce.
Β
Team Gray: Harry, David, Sumeet & Savindri. Team Leader - Harry! They made a pan fried fish in a curry and chilli sauce.
Β
Team Red: Darrsh, Lachlan, Mimi & Stephen. Team Leader - Darrsh! They made pressure-cooked lamb with a tomato broth. The tomato was not highlighted nearly enough and the sauce was reduced down too far.
Β
The winning team was Team Navy Blue- so both Josh's, Snezana & Alex are immune from Sunday's elimination.
Β
They showed a scene from Sunday and sadly, Juan is in the bottom four with Stephen, Nat, & Sumeet. I don't want to see Juan in the bottom, and I don't want him to be eliminated. I HATE waiting until Sunday and it's only Wednesday now! Nat has her Immunity Pin, unless she chooses to keep it, which leaves the other three vulnerable. They shouldn't show that far ahead, it makes me nervous! Then again, keeping the pin may not be good for Nat, I've seen episodes in past seasons where someone has kept the pin and lived to regret it as they should have used it. I'm not saying I want this to happen though!
Β
This is Sumeet's fifth or sixth time at the bottom,Β I'm losing count!Β
Β
The only reason Juan was in the bottom last time was because of the limited pantry in that particular challenge and not being able to use the spices and herbs that could have kept him out of the bottom that time. Nat hasn't been in the bottom before, but Stephen has.
Β
I love the adorable Juan - in all his emotions, he still remains smiley and chipper! If he does get eliminated, I will continue to be his buddy (as I am with many past contestants on Instagram) and I will still support his culinary dreams, his board games and especially his music! πŸ˜€Β

I am so devastated and heartbroken that Juan was eliminated tonight. 😒😒

He was my favourite, but I hope for good things from him in the future. Hopefully these will involve opening a restaurant, writing a cookbook, getting his own TV show, continuing with his board game designing and best of all, I would love for him to release a CD - I love his music! β€οΈπŸ˜€Just like past seasons, I wish all the contestants well and I hope Juan becomes to me what many of the other contestants are - former MasterChef alumni who I still befriend and would love to keep in touch with.❀️ TheyΒ are all winners to me.😊

I will still watch the rest of the season, but I don't have the heart to choose a new favourite. πŸ˜₯Β

Still, Juan has announced he has news for us over the next few days, so I am excited for that, whatever it is! πŸ˜€Β

Since my last update, we have said farewell to Stephen, Snezana, Sue & David.

Savindri was also eliminated, but she won her place back in the Second Chance Challenge.

Nat was finally forced to cash in her Immunity Pin. She no longer has that advantage.

Sumeet won the latest Immunity Challenge, she was safe from tonight's elimination, and she won the bonus prize of her InTalian sauce (a combination of Indian and Italian flavours) being mass produced and sold in stores.Β

Tonight, Josh Clarke was eliminated.

Β

This week is a desserts themed week where every night is a chance to win immunity from next Sunday's elimination.

Top 10 2024:

Alex Crisp (ELIMINATED)
Darrsh Clarke (ELIMINATED)
Gillian Dinh (ELIMINATED)
Harry Butterfield (ELIMINATED)
Josh Perry (TOP 2)
Lachlan Whittle (ELIMINATED)
Mimi Wong (ELIMINATED)
Nat Thaipun (TOP 2)
Savindri Perera (RE-ELIMINATED)
Sumeet Saigal (ELIMINATED)

Sorry about the lack ofΒ MasterChefΒ updates! Since my last update, we have lost my second and third favourites -Β Lachlan & Darrsh. I can't believe that next week is the finals for the season already! We have five contestants leftΒ (Josh, Savindri, Mimi, Nat & Harry).Β
Β
NatΒ won the lastΒ Immunity ChallengeΒ so she is safe on Sunday which is the last elimination, but I am unsure as to whether it is a single or double elimination. I am sad my favourites didn't have a chance to make it to the finals this year, but I do wish everyoneΒ else well.
Β
I also can't wait untilΒ Dessert Masters SeasonΒ 2Β comes, whenever that comes, sometime in October/November I imagine.
Β
Last night on MasterChef, Nat, Josh & Harry had to recreate guest chef Josh Niland's Flounder Kandinsky dish. Savindri was immune from the night's test because she made the winning dish the night before.

Besides the fish component (stuffed with scallop mousse), the trio had to recreate all the sauces and arrange them into a special round design. The sauces included macadamia tahini, harissa, preserved lemon yoghurt, green zucchini puree and curried squash puree.

Josh accidentally put the sauces on the plate in the WRONG order, so while he stuffed up the presentation, his textures and taste were sound.

Nat made a few technical errors including overcooking the fish and the scallop mouse, which had the consistency of scrambled egg!

Harry also stuffed up and forgot to wrap the fish in cling wrap before steaming it (resulting in it kind of exploding everywhere) and his overall execution just had too many flaws, so he was eliminated.

So the Top 3 for MasterChef 2024 are Savindri, Nat & Josh. Sunday tonight is a goof-off night (presumably to allow the trio to de-stress) as the judges have to cook for the contestants. Then Monday and Tuesday are the Semi-Final & Grand Finale.

Β
Tonight the three contestants (Savindri, Nat & Josh) had to cook a three course meal each on their own. The two most impressive menus saw their makers go into tomorrow night's Grand Finale to see who wins the title of MasterChef AU 2024, the trophy and the $250,000.
Β
Savindri faced her second and final elimination which means that the two contestants in the final will be Nat and Josh.
Β
I am hoping Nat will win out of these two. She has been consistently strongΒ throughout the season.

I've been away from here for a while, for various reasons, but I realised I never completed the rundowns of the season of MasterChef.

The winner was Nat Thaipun, (see photo). She received $250,000 the title of MC AU 24 and her name etched on the trophy with past winners.

Josh Perry came second and received $40,000.

Savindri Perera came third and was awarded $10,000.
