Now for the three least favourable dishes:
 
Darrsh Clarke's attempt at charcoal chicken with eggplant puree left the judges with a raw chicken that could not be eaten although his eggplant dish was tasty.
 
Savindri Perera's squid in broth was so tiny, there was not enough for all the judges to taste.
 
Ben MacDonald's squid fettuccine failed because his fettuccine was not the best structural choice for the dish and there was not enough flavour. 
 
 
Darrsh, Savindri (Sav) & Ben will be joining Sarah in tomorrow night's Pressure Test Elimination set by Chocolate Queen, Kirsten Tibballs.
 
Ben still has his Immunity Pin should he need to get himself out of trouble.
 
I hope Sarah gets well in time and makes a successful comeback. She's usually very talented.
 
Darrsh & Sav need to step up their game to avoid being eliminated.

Tonight on MasterChef: Back To Win, the trio of Darrsh Clarke, Savindri Perera & Ben MacDonald as well as Sarah Todd (who has returned from a minor illness) had to recreate the legendary Kirsten Tibballs' Coffee Caviar & Chocolate Tin creation in an epic and intense Pressure Test Elimination.

The dessert consists of layers of coffee and marsala soaked chocolate cake, chocolate and coffee mousse, and vanilla and marsala infused mascarpone in a tin made from gold-sprayed chocolate, covered with coffee flavoured "caviar" and served with white chocolate and almond toasts and a white chocolate spoon.
 
If this dish looks familiar, it should, as it is the exact same dessert that Kirsten made in her season of Dessert Masters two years ago.
 
Ben MacDonald, who had never worked with chocolate before had a slow start as he didn't fill the molds all the way to the top as he should have and it took him a few goes to temper the chocolate properly. He also sprayed the tin canary yellow instead of gold, but this was a minor detail. In the end, he didn't have to cash in his Immunity Pin as he didn't need to as it all came together well.
 
Darrsh Clarke had the most successful recreation of the dish and was perhaps the winner of the night.
 
Sarah Todd had overflowed her tin with the mousse and mascarpone and her caviar pearls had assimilated too much into the mirror glaze making them wet and gloopy. I was so worried for Sarah as it might have sent her home.

However, Savindri Perera made the biggest mistake of all when she forgot to put her chocolate molds into the fridge, making them crack open when she went to de-mold them. After a second batch of molds, she remembered the chilling process, but she didn't have enough time to set them properly. Her chocolate cracked again when she went to serve and it was far too thick, leading to her elimination.

Tomorrow night, guest chef Shannon Bennett returns with an epic Immunity Challenge which will protect one lucky contestant from Sunday's Elimination. I hope Depinder Chhibber wins the honour!

I have to laugh with Kirsten Tibballs, before the show I sent her a message on Instagram to ask jokingly if it would be bad manners just to dive into the chocolate.

 
She wrote back "I would encourage it!" 🤣

Tonight on MasterChef, guest judge Shannon Bennett set a 20 Minute Challenge where the contestants had exactly 20 minutes to create a dish to win Immunity from Sunday's Elimination.

 
The only one who had any major flaws was Rhiannon Anderson whose prawns were undercooked. Had this been an elimination, she would most likely have gone home. There were a few dishes that could have done with a little more seasoning, finesse and flavour, but those were minor details.
 
The four best dishes were those created by Depinder Chhibber, Theo Loizou, Alana Lowes & Andre Ursini.

The three seafood dishes fared very well, but Theo's loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) were considered the best dish and so he won the Immunity.

 

Sunday Night's Elimination Challenge is a twist on a classic theme, the Taste Test Challenge.
 
The contestants will divide into groups, choose a taste-tester from each group who will then be blindfolded and asked to taste a cube of food and guess what it is. They will be playing for the whole team. 
 
Usually, in this type of challenge, each individual contestant does a taste test and the first *however many number* to guess wrong  (it varies from season to season) have to play the actual Elimination Challenge to see who gets sent home. I've not seen a group taste test before so this will be interesting. Tune in for Sunday's write-up!

Tonight on MasterChef was the One Inch Cube Taste Test Elimination Challenge.

Theo won Immunity last time so he didn't compete.

The contestants were divided into 3 groups of 6 where they had to designate one member from the team to take turns tasting cubes of various ingredients. They were also blindfolded.

The three tasters were Jamie Fleming, Audra Morrice & Laura Sharrad.
 
Depinder Chhibber & Sarah Todd were on Audra's team so naturally that was the group I was hoping would be safe.
 
The first taster to guess incorrectly would send their entire team into the second round from which someone would be eliminated.
 
Because Audra was successful, Depinder & Sarah were automatically safe too as were the rest of their group.
 
Jamie was the first incorrect guesser (he stated one of his ingredients was plum, but it turned out to be strawberry). Therefore Jamie and his team (Snezana Calic, Steph De Sousa, Matt Hopcraft, Andre Ursini & Tim Bone) had to play the elimination round, where they could choose only the ingredients the judges said were allowed to be used from the complete list of ingredients used in the tasting, even ones that had yet to be tasted.

The Middle 2 dishes were made by Jamie & Tim. Both had problems undercooking and then overcooking their respective pork dishes.
 
Jamie made Duck, Celeriac Puree, Roasted Fennel & Apple while Tim made Pork, Apple & Fennel Sauce, Apple & Parsnip Puree, & Pickled Apple.
 
The Bottom 2 dishes were made by Steph & Matt.
 
Steph made Pork Belly & Apple Slaw, but her pork was mostly all fat. Meanwhile, Matt's Mushroom Ravioli & Mushroom Cappuccino Sauce was considered lacking in flavour and seasoning. In the end it was Steph who was eliminated.

 Sorry about last night guys, I wasn't feeling my best so I will share the highlights of yesterday's MasterChef and still fill you in on tonight's events.

 
Last night, the contestants had to choose which judge's fridge they would like to seek inspiration from. However, they had to choose a judge/fridge without knowing what was in it.
 
It turned out that Sofia Levin's fridge contained pickle juices, Jean-Christophe Novelli's fridge contained rinds (cheese, orange, ham), Poh Ling Yeow's fridge contained pastry offcuts and Andy Allen's fridge contained herb stalks.
 
For some reason, Depinder Chhibber, Sarah Todd & Rue Mupedzi were not featured in last night's episode. I hope they are all right and that it was only a minor illness like Sarah's last one was. Depinder and Sarah are my favourites and my hopes to win.
 
After the ingredients were revealed the contestants had to create a dish starring the main ingredient from the fridge they chose.
 
Andre, Ben & Snez had chosen Jean-Christophe's fridge, while Jimmy had chosen Sofia's fridge.
 
Here are the four best dishes from the night, created by Snezana Calic, Jimmy Wong, Ben MacDonald & Andre Ursini.

Andre's Parmigiano Tortellini, Quail & Chicken Consommé, & Saffron.

Tonight's episode features last night's winners (Snezana, Jimmy, Ben & Andre) participating in a Pressure Test with Curtis Stone. Usually a Pressure Test is an Elimination Challenge for the previous night's least favourable dishes, but this time it is an Immunity Challenge for the previous night's best dishes, just to shake things up for a change I suppose.
 
I imagine Wednesday night's challenge is to determine who will be competing in Sunday night's elimination.

On tonight's MasterChef, Curtis Stone was the guest judge and he brought one of his recipes so that last night's Top 4 (Snezana, Ben, Andre & Jimmy) could all replicate it in a Pressure Test, that for once is an Immunity Challenge instead of an Elimination Challenge.

 
Not really my ideal recipe, but the quartet had to recreate a dish comprising Pork Fillet, Braised Fennel, Citrus Beurre Monté, Carrot Puree & Pistachio Dukkah.
 
All four contestants performed well, but Ben's was considered the best so he won Immunity from Sunday's Elimination. He also has his Immunity Pin for a future challenge if he needs to get out of trouble.
 
Tomorrow night is a Service Challenge where contestants pick a coloured apron from a bag and the matching colours team up to complete the challenge, which this week is a French feast set by judge Jean-Christophe Novelli. The winning team will join Ben in safety from Sunday's challenge. Naturally I am cheering on whichever team Depinder is on, and if she and Sarah are on the same team, that would rock! If not, I hope both ladies teams will be safe.

Tonight on MasterChef, judge Jean Christophe-Novelli set a French banquet challenge for the contestants, divided by coloured aprons into four teams. Their dishes were to be served to the other judges Poh Ling Yeow, Andy Allen & Sofia Levin, plus 60 guests.

 
The good news is that Depinder Chhibber, Sarah Todd & Rue Mupedzi have all recovered from their respective illnesses and were back in the MasterChef kitchen.
 
The two teams who produced the best main course and dessert over all will join Ben MacDonald in Immunity from Sunday's Elimination. Although Ben did cook, he is still automatically immune, regardless of team placement, from his last challenge and still has his Immunity Pin should he need it later on this season.
 
 
The four teams were:
 
Green Team (Alana Lowe, Jimmy Wong, Laura Sharrad, Rhiannon Anderson & Samira El Khafir)
 
Gray Team (Beau Cook, Jamie Fleming, Matt Hopcraft, Snezana Calic & Tim Bone)
 
Blue Team (Audra Morrice, Callum Hann, Darrsh Clarke, Declan Cleary & Sarah Todd)
 
Brown Team (Andre Ursini, Ben MacDonald, Depinder Chhibber, Rue Mupedzi &Theo Loizou)
 
Main Courses:
 
Green Team - Seafood Bisque (Lobster & Mussels), Braised Fennel, Crunchy Home-Made Rolls & Tarragon Butter
 
Gray Team - Coq Au Vin
 
Blue Team - Bouillabaisse & Indian Spices
 
Brown Team - Boeuf En Croute & Black Garlic Sauce
 
 
The Green Team's and The Blue Team's main dishes were considered the best. The Blue Team's success was largely due to Sarah Todd's wizardry with spices. The Gray Team's dish was too salty while The Brown Team's garlic component was too overpowering.
