@cosmic Hmmm - it was Super7 that made his Classics figure?
No, it was Mattel. Demo-Man was part of the MattyCollector sub from back in the day. And even if Super7 did the figure, it would have been with Mattel's input anyway. I suspect whoever wrote this blurb just doesn't know their MOTU figure history.
@chrisa ok that explains it. I have the Classics figure so I was confused by that statement
@chrisa It's still weird though because they acknowledge in the statement that a Demo-Man figure was made previously, so whoever wrote that blurb knows that figure exists, so who do they think made it if not Mattel?? 🤣

@chrisa I don’t know, like @durendal said, who would they think produced it then? Hasbro? 😏
I’m not in the camp of saying “oh everyone at Mattel is so incompetent!” I think sometimes there are reasons we don’t know.
Classics has often been sidelined in promotional communications. There might be some reasons we are not aware of. 🤷
@cosmic They possibly sideline Classics so as not to feed Scott's ego after the belligerent way he's been behaving towards Mattel for many years now.
@durendal Yeah it’s a shame how all of that ended. He definitely accomplished a lot for MOTU.
It’s just really interesting. Like others noticed, in the DK book, Classics just got one spread, or for example during 40th anniversary posts on insta, when showing the different Skeletors or He-Mans across the decades, Classics was missing,…
It does remind me a bit how Marvel wouldn’t promote X-Men comics and canceled Fantastic Four comics for a while, when they didn’t have the movie rights.
I doubt they'd bury Classics just to spite Neitlich (though I wouldn't expect a Mighty Spector figure any time soon).
It probably has more to do with it being a niche line from last decade that was only available online. They'd rather focus on stuff from retail. Considering Mattel has been using stuff from Classics (new Origins figures, the real names from the CGI show, and the Classics Castle Grayskull box art is literally the first thing you see in Revelation), they haven't completely memory-holed it.
I wouldn't put it past Dylan Price leaving Classics out in spite. Why not. Scott has been a real asshole to Mattel so fuck him. He's jealous of the new lines and bashes them as much as he can. You can take it to the bank that Mattel took notice when Scott said Origins and Masterverse were dead. You know it caused a headache for Mattel and it may have cost them sales too.
Someone over at Mattel was just informed.
Can Classics come back now? I'm bored with all the other MOTU lines ... 🙄

1000x YES!!!
I was thinking the same thing. I recently opened Masterverse Vintage Skeletor… looking at him solo, he looks pretty cool. But when I went to display him, I caught a glimpse of a Classics Skeletor, and Classics put him to shame . The Vintage Masterverse chest and arms are way out of proportion. They need to fix before they pump out 20 Vintage Collection figures looking like this.
OR BETTER YET… start releasing Classics figures in the Masterverse line.
I am hoping Mondo’s 200X figures scale with Classics and don’t cost a small fortune. Their Ghostbuster figures are ludicrously priced… so not holding my breath.
Does anyone else get kinda sad at this time of the year?
All the new reveals potentially coming out at SDCC are exciting and all, but Classics fans just die a little more inside knowing it'll be another year without MOTU Classics figures representation ... 😤
Listen to Grayskull Guardsman, Mattel. Start releasing Classics figures as a subline in Masterverse, already!
Also, it'd be nice if in 2028 we got some kind of 20th anniversary celebration of the Classics line, too ... I can dream, right? 😒

@abaddon In my opinion, it would be unwise and counterproductive to set MOTUC as a subline of Masterverse, especially at this point, given that many references have already supplanted the MOTUC ones. Sadly, despite our continued investment and passion for this 12-year-old line, Mattel has sent a clear message by not publicly commenting on the aforementioned strategy. However, if they had intended to reset the brand, they would have done so by now. That's just my two cents, of course. Instead, another line appeared with a slightly superior scale. It had a few miles to cover before it could pretend to be the referential brand for all MOTU collectors. However, over the last few years, Masterverse has hit its stride and has convinced more and more collectors with its quality. The only problem is the philosophy behind it, which seems to focus solely on several iterations of well-known characters, with rare exceptions (Skelcons, Motherboard, etc.). Having posted about this matter in the past, I'd say that seeing a full vintage catalogue reproduced via the Masterverse line would be a miracle. This excludes, of course, the playsets, mounts, vehicles, etc. Unfortunately, this is just the way it is now.
You're probably right. But that doesn't make me any less sadder.
Hopefully Mattel doesn't ditch New Eternia next ...

This could well be nostalgia speaking, but just personally, there seems to be a "quality gap" that Masterverse just can't cross for me. I've picked up the odd Masterverse figure, including some newer ones, and while some of them a good, they just don't touch the classics. There's something about the timeless sculpt style, the paint apps and washes, the weight of the plastic, or something I can't put my finger on - but the Classics always feel a tier above for some reason.
@doughnut it was a different time, different cost structure…
The retail aspect– I believe Masterverse and Origins have to be produced very, very cheaply (stores taking a big cut)
So it’s a different product than Classics…
There is also a style question, besides again costs, there’s a lot of “general” toy collectors who are so imprinted w/ Marvel Legends style stuff, a million joints,…
So it’s complicated,… but there are advantages, too. The limbs do move a bit more freely, the arms feel longer,… and they really shine when they have an armor on– which was the weakness of Classics.
Just saying there are a few upsides, too.
@cosmic You've just enumerated the reasons why I decided to replace Motuc with Masterverse on my shelves gradually. Despite my great affection for them, I have always been frustrated by my inability to pose them exactly as I want. I need my own battlefields to make them look alive, if that makes any sense (lol).
I think we have a new case of Classics parts reuse?
Hellfire-Man uses a Tri-Klops armor that is a bit big, and has knives sculpted into the plastic, in the back.
Also, he uses rather large Beast-Man arm-pads with the horns, which might be also Classics.
