A CHRONICLES SCARE GLOW?!
Now a black “Masters of the Universe” Logo “Chronicles” figure has surfaced (assumingly non-movie related)! It’s SCARE GLOW… courtesy of the amazing tom-el-83 on Reddit!
Check it out!
This is what the proud first Scare Glow owner had to say:
"Since today seems to be the day for posting things that haven't been officially announced yet, I contacted Mattel a little while ago about one of my Masterverse figures breaking basically out of the package. They didn't have that figure in stock (thankfully BBTS did, so it's in my Pile of Loot again), so they offered either a refund or to send me a Chronicles Core figure. I figured I was already planning to get most of the Chronicles figures anyway, so I took that option. I was pretty stoked when they sent me this very cool new Scare Glow, a figure I still haven't seen any reporting about. It's been sitting on my bookcase for a little over a week, waiting for me to have the time to properly take pictures and post about it, but once I saw the Golden Skeletor posts, I figured now was probably a good time.
I like the scale and the design a lot. The joints are kind of perfect, especially compared to how stiff most of my recent Masterverse and Origins figures have been lately. Very fluid movements, but everything stays where you put it when you put it there. I dig the green fire effect around his head. Based on the paint color, I didn't expect him to glow in the dark at all, but I did a quick bit of experimenting, and it seems like at least his head does, so it's possible that his bones do too, since they look to be the same color. The cape fabric is very thin, but I'm glad I was able to remove the tape from it without leaving a lot of sticky residue like often seems to happen (looking at you, Keldor). I'm a little disappointed that there's no accessories besides the halberd and two alternate hands; I feel like the 200X Cartoon Collection figures are a real downgrade in terms of accessories (one accessory in monochrome plastic and no minicomic?) and this feels like more of that trend compared to what comes with some of the New Eternia and Vintage Collection figures.
The head comes off very easily, revealing that the flame collar is easily removable and that the figure has additional neck articulation that I don't think I've noticed on Masterverse figures. I didn't have a lot of convenient recent ones to check, but New Eternia Keldor's not articulated there. The package boasts "deluxe articulation," so I guess we might be seeing some more poseability.
Notably, the package doesn't have the word "Core" on it as far as I can see, nor any other specific universe branding besides "Chronicles." There is an "Inaugural Edition," so I'm not sure what that will come to mean in the long run. The only character teases are a very FILMation-looking Prince Adam and Cringer. The most natural comparison is with the Revelations figure, and this one feels like a massive step up, something I wouldn't necessarily say for even a lot of the New Eternia designs. The Masterverse version just feels oddly-proportioned with its tiny little head and the painted-on bones are so sparse that it comes off as cheap. The Chronicles figure has much better proportions, a lot more detail (little metal skull faces on his shoulder pads, lots of chains) and the bone designs are sculpted, which makes them stand out a lot more. Looking at this guy next to the Origins Scare Glow reminds me of looking at the Four Horsemen designs back in the day, or Emiliano Santalucia's art, taking the basic concept and making the version that exists in a kid's imagination.
I dig it, is what I'm saying. If the rest of the line looks like this, I will be very happy. My credit card bill, less so.I did take some unboxing videos, but I didn't go looking for my phone tripod, so they're mostly me fumbling around with my X-Acto knife and the cape tape and trying to keep my hands in frame. I'll post them if people are interested in seeing my messy desk, I guess"
Thanks to the awesome @thenate and Shaun for the ‘heads up’… and of course tom-el-83 for the amazing reveal!

Wow!
We’ll see you next time!

Mattel: Hey Mondo? Can we copy your homework!?!
Mondo: Sure. Just don’t make it obvious
*Chronicles Scare Glow*
Its SHOCKING how inspired this figure seems from the Mondo 1/6 Deluxe Scare Glow. Its legit a discount version of that figure on so many levels. Looks a hell of a lot better than the MV version though.
Not fair to compare. The Masterverse figure was an Revelation animation figure. A New Eternia Scare Glow would have looked wicked.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mattel has in their sublicence contracts, that they “own” all the designs and can legit use everything Mondo does…
Looks great! But also looks like another nail in the coffin for Masterverse if they’re producing exclusives or non-movie figures in the Core or Chronicles line.
HOLY SHIT FKN METAL!
I imagine this and Gold Skeletor were going to be officially revealed at the Mattel Creations event next month but seem to of hit shelves first?
The thing with REVEALED is that it’s very focused on Mattel Creations, exclusively. Perhaps they use it to clear up some confusion, OR maybe they do have some new Chronicles releases exclusively for Creations.
Otherwise, it could be that they just show the next couple Origins releases…, and move on to Barbie etc
It says Inaugural Edition on the left side. If that is the line name………….
I’m confused… Chronicles Scareglow is taller than Masterverse Scareglow. Definitely in scale together.
But Pixel Dan and others said the movie Chronicles figures are smaller.
What scale is Chronicles in?!?!
I’m thrilled that Scareglow seems to scale great with Masterverse!
@grayskullguardsman I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a New Eternia Scare Glow sculpt that ended up in a Chronicles box.
Possibly, similar to how Masterverse Revelation Moss Man started out very Classics-y. But this Scareglow has all the new Chronicles articulation and hand pins, etc. And seems to fit into the box similar to Chronicles movie He-man.
That’s true. It could be a hybrid. The Masterverse design could have been ported over to Chronicles with all the updated articulation. It would explain the size.
This looks good
This is very exciting! Since the news MV was being put on ice my interest had begun to wane. If Chronicles Scareglow is indeed the new MV, I can feel my eagerness coming on again!
One thing must be clarified: I, and possibly many others, simply don’t care about the toy line being relabeled, as long as the course begun with Masterverse continues. I remember this character appearing on NE Ninjor’s box art very well.
My mind is already set to Chronicles = Masterverse. Simply a new namesake to call it a new toyline for a hopefully new & bountiful era of MOTU that gets kicked off with the movie.
Selling it under a new name as the new thing with the movie also helps distribution channels if they want to have it in more toystores globally; especially those that got burned by Mattels snobby elitist approach later with Origins and likely Masterverse.
As ever with Mattel we need more information. That ‘inaugural edition’ could be yet another fucking subline from them. Maybe even a Cretins or store exclusive. It’s bigger than Masterverse, seemingly, never mind what everybody thought Chronicles was (not helped by Mattel’s nebulous spiel).
It’s a definite case of wait and see. Hopefully it’s Masterverse under a new name, that’s all the vast majority really wanted.
Very confusing, very cool… It seems like Chronicles has different scales?? Or were Pixel Dan et al so off with their estimate how tall Chronicles is?
Like @onlyoneskeletor said, I really don’t care about the name, if they fit with my Masterverse, I’m happy about all of this.
(If the MOVIE Chronicles are smaller, I can live with that, since I’m not that keen on those as figures; if those are ALSO in MV scale, I may be more inclined to get some of the villains,…)
SIZE COMPARISON:
Comparing the size of the Masterverse “Masters of the Universe: Revelation" Scare Glow figure with the Chronicles “Inaugural Edition" Scare Glow figure just recently revealed.
@admin At first glance, the new figure seems more imposing. However, I’m wondering what the result would be if both figures were correctly aligned.
Very true! One slightly in front of the other and then the angle of the perspective makes it a little tricky.
This is what the owner added about the size of the new Scare Glow:
“So, side by side, his head is maybe a couple of millimeters taller than Revelation Scare Glow’s. The flame collar does go a bit higher, though"
“As I said in another comment, the height difference between Revelation SG and Chronicles SG is pretty negligible. CSG has at best a few millimeters on RSG, unless you count the flame collar, which gives CSG probably 1.5-2cm additional height over RSG standing back to back. CSG does look bigger overall, but I think that’s because his proportions are better. His head is significantly larger than RSG’s, and the harness gives him wider-looking shoulders, which I think contributes to him looking larger overall"
actually, this new Scare Glow looks nice, I am really surprised it is same size as MV…like somebody said, this was probably supposed to be New Eternia version, but never mind…good sign if you ask me, hopefully, we will get Snake men and some other figs that were missing in MV…
Damn! All I’ve been doing is refreshing the Masterverse thread (out of habit). lol I’m missin all the fun over here.
I LOVE this new Scare Glow. That skull is awesome for copying in resin. And I love the green fire effect around his head just like my avatar. CHEF’S KISS!
I’m really hoping we’ll get a classic style with the full glow-in-the-dark body like Classics in the Vintage Collection.
Now I’m just waiting to see what the hell is actually going on with the sizes. I want everything to stay 7″ to go with Masterverse. I don’t care if they call it Masterverse or Chronicles. Although “Masterverse" is lot easier to search for because nothing else shares that name. I can go to Amazon & simply search for “Masterverse" and only the MOTU figures show up. Search for “Chronicles" and you’ll get a ton of Narnia stuff.
@thenate excellent
Fortunately, some things remain unchanged, which should facilitate the inevitable transition from Masterverse to Chronicles even more. I like that. The illustrator’s touch is highly recognizable.
Hell yeah! Awesome artwork. I can’t wait to order this one.
