‘Snake Mountain’ Concept Art revealed for the “MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE” Movie! (Plus details regarding Story and Easter Eggs!)

Today at Brand Licensing Europe, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel keynote speakers Ruth Henriquez (Mattel) and Greg Coleman (Amazon) presented “A Legend Reborn: Reimagining Masters of the Universe” discussing their strategy behind their revival of the Masters of the Universe franchise.

Attendees were not only treated to information about the film, but was also shown concept art of Snake Mountain… home to the villainous, Evil Lord of Destruction, Skeletor! Check it out:

And here are some highlights of what the keynote speakers had to say of the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” Movie:

Why now?

“The property has never gone away, it continued to reinvent itself. This feels like the perfect moment. Fans have been asking for more and we know there is a trend powered by nostalgia. Most importantly, we have been waiting for the perfect partner and creative team to bring ‘Masters of the Universe’ to life in a way that feels epic.”

The magnitude of the film:

"To build a film of the scale and scope, it takes a lot of effort and it’s not easy to pull off,” says Coleman. “Audiences are really discerning.”
The magnitude of the set and level of detail was out of this world"

On Skeletor and Adam:

Skeletor is one of the most delicious villains of all-time, but there’s also a story of Adam, who is a regular person and have to grab the power. It’s always within him, and it’s revealed in a powerful way. We have this full dimensional cast and [director] Travis Knight who had a vision. Even if you have never seen ‘Masters of the Universe,’ it’s a fun, entertaining story.”

What about Easter Eggs?

"For the long-term fans, there are Easter eggs in the film but stepping back, the entry point for fans is broad. The entry point will be very approachable for everyone… This will be the film everyone will be talking about.”

About Partnering with Amazon MGM:

“As a studio, we want to put excellence on screen,” Coleman, “There’s an existing fan base, and we can lean into that. It’s not only about what’s new and established, but there are different offerings across all Amazon platforms. With out legacy at MGM, tying it in with Amazon, we have the best of both worlds.”
"This is a film you must see in theaters, because you will be blown away by the experience. When it comes to Prime video, you can rewatch the moment you want to experience again. It’s not a movie in isolation. People will be wearing the merch, buying the toys and talking about it just like ‘Barbie.'"

The “Masters of the Universe” Movie is currently in Post-Production with the film scheduled to be released in cinemas worldwide on June 5th, 2026.

Thanks to Licensing Global for the quotes!

We’ll see you next time!

  1. I mean, “concepts” can be explorative and don’t have to appear in the movie… but I do like what he says.
I have high hopes it’ll be a fun film and since I’ve become a fan of Adam since MOTU:R, I think I’ll have a good time with his story!
I’ll see it as a new iteration. If people can have love for the `87 film, which is SO different, I hope people will have love for this version, too.

It would be so nice to get new people interested in our beloved Eternian world!

  2. The artwork looks incredible and if they realize that in the film then Holy moly.
Little disappointed with BLE and the keynote as a whole, the press release seemed to hint at more of Mattel laying out their plans surrounding the film with peeks but they only showcased the artwork and didn’t really say a whole lot. We honestly got more information in the interview published over the weekend.
